The bell rings at three in the morning everyday. Ding, Dong, Ding Ding, Dong. It repeats that pattern for around thirty minutes, or so I thought.
Every night as I am sleeping, this clock wakes me up. I never seem to hear anyone else in my household wake up, and no one has ever mentioned anything about it to me or our neighborhood app. I always thought that was strange but tried not to think too much of it. One day, I decided to ask my mom about the bell. “Hey, did that bell wake you up last night too?” I had asked her. “What bell? Was it the ones on the dog collar?” “No, the one at the church down the street. There’s a bell every night that rings at about three in the morning, and doesn’t stop till around three thirty. It’s so annoying! All it does is wake me up and doesn’t let me go back to sleep every night for thirty minutes.” “Sorry hun, I’m not sure what you’re talking about. Are you sure it isn’t a dream?” “No, it’s real. I know it.” “Okay, maybe ask your dad. He’s the light sleeper.” “Okay, I’ll text him.” I pull out my phone to text my dad Hey dad, do you hear a bell every night that wakes you up around three? No? What are you talking about? Omg. The bell that’s at the church down the road. There’s a church down the road?? I swear. You don’t hear the bell? Hun, I have no idea what you are talking about. Do you need a therapist No, dad. I’ll figure it out. Love you! Love you too kiddo The end of the conversation “Dad said he knows nothing about it,” I said to my mom. “Weird. Idk, maybe record it tonight? See if it’s really real.” “Yeah, good idea. I have to go to school now, I’ll talk to you later.” 2:57am Friday, October 13 I know it’s real. I just know it. I hear it every night and I’ve never had a recurring nightmare in my life. So I don’t think that would be the case. The clock ticks by as I pull out my phone and start recording. The clock hits three. I hear nothing. No bell.

Malaiah PurcellI play volleyball. In this picture, I was sitting on the bathroom floor about to change into my court shoes. Court shoes are shoes only worn on the volleyball court inside, they cannot be worn outside. I was in the bathroom with my best friend Peyton, while she was getting ready for our first game. “We’ve got to hurry,” Peyton said. We were cutting it close to the time we were supposed to be in the gym to watch the Middle School game before ours. I put my court shoes on, washed my hands and we left to watch the game.
